ISPID Junior Investigator Award
This is an annual award to be made in recognition of a significant contribution to the understanding or prevention of infant deaths by a trainee scientist or health professional.

The award will be given on the basis of contribution by the nominee to a peer-reviewed paper published during the relevant year, in a recognised scientific or professional journal. The date of publication may either be the date of on-line publication or the date of appearance in the paper version of the journal.

For the purpose of this award, a trainee is defined as a person with a basic qualification in the relevant field, who is undertaking postgraduate training or study for a higher degree, or who has completed a higher degree or postgraduate qualification in his/her field within the last 5 years.

Applications and nominations are invited from trainees for consideration for this award. The application should include an electronic version of the published paper (in PDF format), together with an account of the contribution made by the applicant to the work. The application must include a signed letter of approval from the corresponding author of the paper, (as given on the published version), confirming the details of the contribution of the applicant.

The closing date for application to the 2007 Award is 31 March 2008, for papers published in the calendar year 2007. Applications will be reviewed and judged by an ad-hoc committee consisting of the Board of ISPID, together with one or more additional co-opted experts in the field. The decision of this committee is final, and no further correspondence can be entered into concerning unsuccessful applications.

The award will consist of a certificate, and a monetary award of EUR 500, free registration for the next scientific meeting of ISPID, and one year’s free membership of ISPID. Applications should be sent by e-mail to award@ispid.org or by conventional mail to the following address:
